Cole Escola’s Broadway comedy “Oh, Mary!” is preparing to take its irreverent portrait of Mary Todd Lincoln beyond New York, with a national tour scheduled to begin in fall 2026.
The touring production will launch in Hartford, Connecticut, with its first performances set for The Bushnell, before traveling to cities such as Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. Additional cities are expected to be announced as the tour expands.
Casting for the tour has not yet been revealed. The title role will be announced at a later date, with casting overseen by Henry Russell Bergstein.
“Oh, Mary!” reimagines the final weeks before President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, placing his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, at the center of an unconventional comedy. In Escola’s version, history is filtered through a deliberately skewed perspective that transforms Mary into a sharp-tongued, cabaret-loving figure whose obsessions and excesses drive the play’s offbeat humor.

The play first debuted Off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in 2024, where demand led to three separate extensions. Later that year, the production made the leap to Broadway, opening at the Lyceum Theatre.
Awards recognition followed soon after. At the 2025 Tony Awards, the production claimed two major honors, including Best Direction of a Play for Sam Pinkleton and Best Leading Actor in a Play for Escola, who originated the role of Mary on Broadway.
Following Escola’s departure, a rotating lineup of performers stepped into the role, among them Hannah Solow, Betty Gilpin, Tituss Burgess, Jinkx Monsoon, and Jane Krakowski.

The play’s success has also reached international audiences. A West End production has opened in London, with Mason Alexander Park leading the cast, further solidifying the show’s global appeal.
For the national tour, Pinkleton will return to guide the production, reassembling much of the original creative team. The tour will feature scenic design by dots, costumes by Holly Pierson, lighting by Cha See, sound design and composition by Daniel Kluger alongside Drew Levy, and wigs by Leah J. Loukas. Addison Heeren will serve as prop supervisor, with musical arrangements provided by David Dabbon.
“Oh, Mary!” is produced by Kevin McCollum and Lucas McMahon, along with Mike Lavoie and Carlee Briglia, and supported by a broad group of co-producers. More information and future tour updates can be found at OhMaryPlay.com.
